Welcome to the Emma and Marceline Yurts!
Thank you for taking a few minutes to review these helpful hints.
How do I turn on the Coleman lantern?
The Coleman
lantern is hanging on a hook by the stove. Light a match.
Turn the lantern on by turning the knob to the left. Insert the
match in one of the larger holes at the base of the lantern. Hold
the match under the mantle. Adjust the flame with the knob. Spare
mantles are on a hook near the stove, and spare propane
canisters are in the cabinet. Turn off the lantern when
you go to bed and when you leave the yurt.
How do I operate the wood stove?
Newspaper and wood
are located next to the wood stove, and matches are in the
kitchen area. Make sure the flue is open (the metal handle on
the left side of the stove should be in a vertical position). Open
the air intake by sliding the front tray on the stove towards you.
As the fire starts, adjust the air intake to achieve the desired temperature.
Wood will burn more slowly if you slightly close the flue and the front vent.
Split wood will
burn more easily than whole logs. Please use the large stump for splitting wood.
Build your fire
close to the front door of the stove so that heat is not lost
through the stove pipe.
PLEASE DO NOT:
- • split wood on the yurt
floor, slate, or deck.
- • set or hang anything
too close to the stove. If you get hot, open the door.
- • open
the skylight, as it will not close properly in the winter.
How do I warm up food or cook a gourmet meal?
If the wood
stove is already running and your cooking can use its energy,
feel free to place the cooking pans on top of the stove and save a
little gas.
A propane tank for is located on the right side of the stairs at the entrance to the Emma yurt and on the right side below the deck of the Marceline yurt. To use the cook stove, turn on the propane tank by turning the valve counter-clockwise. Light a match, slightly turn the
knob on the desired burner, and bring the match to the burner,
keeping your body at a distance. The flame is adjustable.
Before You Leave the Yurt
Thank you for leaving the yurt better than you
found it. Here are a few reminders:
